audio and video recordings: Sonorities 2009

Thanks to Franziska Schroeder, audio and video documentation of the performance on May 16th 2009 at the Sonic Arts Research Center, Belfast, N. Ireland (the closing concert of Sonorities 2009) is now online.

The performers were Chris Corrigan, Manuela Meier, Pauline Oliveros, Gascia Ouzounian, Han-earl Park, Pedro Rebelo, Franziska Schroeder, Justin Yang, plus Chris Chafe and Doug Van Nort. [Details…]

Downtown Music Gallery: Dunmall-Park-Sanders-Smith

Bruce Lee Gallanter of the Downtown Music Gallery has some nice things to say about the Park–Dunmall–Sanders–Smith CD [More info on this recording…]. Here’s, for example, is his take on the Park-Sanders duet:

Careful, crafty and well-played with that restrained yet fractured guitar that sounds so good. Han-Earl sound seems to be in between Derek Bailey & Philip Gibbs.

How many members of the (semi-fictional) trans-national tribe of latter-day improvising musicians can say they’ve done a fluff piece, huh? (Not counting the blindfold tests.) Braxton? Crispell? Parker? Ha! I don’t think so….
